The Astley Amateur Boxing Club had a very successful night when attending the third Wasp Sports Awards at the Red Lodge MIllenium center. Top honour went to Matt Jack, who was awarded the Newmarket Journals Sports Personality of the Year, he has been attending the boxing club for over 5 years and has been a credit to the club in his acheivement over that time. Another great success was the award given to the clubs coach, Mark O'Reilly, for Coach of the Year. Mark has been running the Boxing Club since 2004, and with the help of previous coach, the late John Humphries, has made a huge success of the boxing club and has been keen to help give the juniors something to acheive and aspire to. A partnership between The Astley ABC and Newmarket Upper School, gave us a third award for Innovative Project. Mark has been working hard with the school to give boys a club that they can train, learn and enjoy. The Boxing Clubs ethos is to teach them how to acquire self discipline, confidence, physical fitness and above all enjoy. So to sum it all a very rewarding and successful night for the Club, and congratulations to all. |
